This is a high- growth time physically, socially, intellectually and emotionally for your teen. I can help them learn the small steps necessary for them to become independent and successful.
The teen years are a high-growth time physically, socially, intellectually and emotionally. With new opportunities, teenagers may struggle as others expect more from them or they have more responsibilities. Friendships, schoolwork, and family life can be confusing and stressful. This is a time when most young adults work on a sense of self-identity and learn skills that lead to independent living. It’s important to remember that many small steps are necessary for the young adult to become independent and successful. There is no doubt that the teen years can be stressful.
If you are concerned about your teen’s well-being or about your relationship with your teen, I may be able to help.
I work with adolescents in a variety of situations. Some of the reasons why teenagers and their families come to see me are:
- Social developmental disorders such as autism spectrum, Asperger syndrome, attention-deficit (ADHD), nonverbal learning disorder (NVLD).
- Inability to make or keep friends or problems with bullies.
- Low self-esteem.
- Social functioning problems and/or poor social skills.
- School and executive functioning problems.
- Anxiety and/or Depression.
I offer diagnostic, therapeutic and consultation services for adolescents.
Diagnostic Services: Individual assessments can highlight strengths and identify weaknesses. Sometimes, a comprehensive diagnostic evaluation is recommended. Other times, only a social competencies assessment is needed.
Therapeutic Services: My therapeutic work stems from the evidence-based practices of cognitive behavioral, applied behavioral and Michelle Garcia Winner’s Social Thinking programs. Ongoing therapeutic work may include individual and/or small group sessions to help with social competencies and social skills.
Consultation Services: I offer coaching for parents of recently-diagnosed teens, parenting skills for parents of teens with social developmental disorders and educational consultations for transition planning.
